Program Details

Group A (Young Dancers)
Ages 7-11 with 1 - 3 years of ballet technique training

  • June 19 - July 8
  • M-F 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Program will be 3 weeks long (June 19-July 8).
  • Parents, families, are invited to a lecture demonstration on Saturday July 8 at 12:00 PM (30-45 minute long program).  
  • Classes will include a 1.5 hour technique class, 30-45 minutes rehearsal, and 45 minutes (to an hour) of a variety of classes such as musicality, conditioning, coordination, and ballet history, and crafts

Group B (Intermediate)
Ages 10-14 with a minimum of 3 - 4 years of ballet technique training

  • Two three week sessions:
    • Technique Intensive: June 19 - July 8
    • Performance Intensive: July 10 - July 28
    • Students in the Performance Intensive will participate in a 1 hour performance on July 28.
  • M-F 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Students will have a half hour break for lunch. This includes a 1.5 hour technique class and two one-hour classes.
  • Students will have the option to stay until 5:00 PM for an extra $75 per week. During that time dancers be chaperoned by an adult and will watch ballet movies, play games and do crafts. A minimum level of participation will be required for this option.
  • Curriculum for the Technique Intensive will include technique, variations, pointe, modern, boys class, character dance, ballet history, seminars, and musicality. 
  • Curriculum for the Performance Intensive will include ballet technique, pointe, variations and rehearsal/workshop.

Group C (Advanced)
Ages 13 - 20 with a minimum of 5 years ballet technique training.

  • M-F 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Two three week sessions:
    • Technique Intensive: June 19 - July 8
    • Performance Intensive: July 10 - July 28
    • Students in the Performance Intensive will participate in a 1 hour performance on July 28.
  • Curriculum for the Technique Intensive will include technique, variations, pointe, modern, boys class, character dance, ballet history, seminars, and musicality. 
  • Curriculum for the Performance Intensive will include ballet technique, pointe, variations and rehearsal/workshop.

To Enroll:

Once you have received your placement, please print and complete the Summer Intensive Enrollment Form and Tuition Contract Form.   Completed forms may be mailed with the payment to MBA at the address on the bottom of the form.   If paying with a credit card, completed forms may be scanned and emailed to MBA at administrator@michiganballet.org.

If your child has not been an MBA student during this school year, please also print and complete a Liability Waiver and, if the student is under 18 years of age, a Medical Emergency Consent Form  as well.

All parents and students are asked to read the Summer Intensive Policies and the Refund Policy.

MBA does not have an enrollment deadline for the International Summer Intensive.  If a student wishes to enroll after June 1, please call 616-710-1666 or e-mail administrator@michiganballet.org.

Scholarships:

A limited number of scholarships, both need-based and merit, are available for the Summer Intensive program.  If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please submit a Scholarship Application.  To be considered, all scholarships requests must be submitted no later than April 17, 2017.

 

 

 

Dress Code:

  • Girls - Black leotard in tank or camisole style, ballet pink tights, hair secured in a ballet bun  
  • Boys - Black tights or shorts, white or grey shirt 

Auditions:

Auditions will be held on Saturday, January 28 and Saturday, February 4, 2017.  Both days from 2:00 - 3:30 at the MBA studios.  A final audition has been added on February 25 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the MBA studios.

In-class auditions can be scheduled by calling the studio at (616) 710-1666. A $25.00 audition fee is due at time of audition. If you are unable to attend an audition, a video may be submitted (see video audition link for instructions). Videos must be submitted by May 1st.

Housing:

MBA offers safe, supervised housing to summer students aged 14 – 18. Housing is limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Housing fees include room, meals, transportation, and weekend activities.   For details about MBA Summer Intensive housing, please click HERE.
